God Protects His People

God is our protector; He is the one who protects us from the attacks of the enemy and from evil.

This is indeed a great blessing that God cares for and protects us. The Bible is full of examples of God protecting His people. I like the example of the children of Israel being pursued by the Egyptians in Exodus 14. In verses 19 and 20, it says that the angel of the Lord was between the Egyptians and the Israelites all night, protecting His people. And time and time again, God took care of them on their journeys.

And something interesting in the New Testament. Look at what John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” NIV We are more than God’s people; we are God’s family. When we receive Christ as our Savior, we immediately become children of God. And if God took care of His people, His servants in the Old Testament, how much more will He protect us, His own children? I do everything I can to protect my family, and God loves us more than we love our families. And that’s why He will always protect us.

You should read Psalm 91 a lot, because it talks a lot about God’s protection. Look at some verses in this psalm, v. 5-8: “You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.8 You will only have to open your eyes wide to see the wicked receive their just deserts.” NIV, and verses 9-10, Because you have made the Lord your refuge, the Most High your protector,10 no evil shall befall you, no disaster shall come near your home. NIV, and as I mentioned, you should read this psalm often because it clearly shows the protection that God gives to His people.

And look at Psalms 121:7-8, The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life.8 The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. NIV He is always watching over us and protecting us. Look at v. 4, The Lord who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. NIV, In other words, he is always watching over us, 24 hours a day.

From all these verses, and there are many more, we learn that He cares for us, and we can trust in the protection of our God. He is a father who loves His children very much and that is why He always protects us.

On the other hand, we know that sometimes bad things happen even to God’s people.

We are in a fallen world full of sin and problems, and there is a spiritual enemy always attacking us, but even so, God protects us and is with us. And as Paul said in Philippians 1:21, For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. NIV In other words, if we die of something, we are immediately in heaven with Christ in a much better place and with eternal life, which is much better than this life.

It is good, like Paul, to live with this eternal perspective, and then the struggles of this world make more sense, because we are living for eternity.

And, knowing about the enemy and his plans to attack us, it is always good to pray and ask for the Lord’s protection, knowing that He answers prayer. Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. NIV

For me, it’s a fact that whether I’m traveling or doing things, I’m always praying, asking for God’s protection and blessing on our lives. This is something good and important that we should all practice.

How wonderful that we have a God who is also a perfect father who loves us and is always caring for and protecting us. Yes, my friend, as a Christian, you can always trust Him.
