God is our Provider
He is the one who meets all our needs. And that is why we can all trust Him.
God knows us and knows our situations, and He is our provider.
In Genesis 22, there is the story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son Isaac to God in an act of tremendous obedience. But it was more of a test to see if he would obey in everything. And Abraham was already ready to do so when God stopped him and provided a ram for the sacrifice. Look at what verse 14 says: Abraham
named that place “The Lord Will Provide.” That is why to this day it is said: On the mountain of the Lord, what is necessary will be provided. NIV And this name, The Lord Will Provide, is one of the redemptive names of God, Jehovah Jireh. How good it is that God is a provider.
Time and again in the Bible, God has shown us that He is a provider. And the point is to trust Him and seek Him in everything.
In Matthew 6:25-34, Christ was teaching that God is the one who supplies everything, and it is not our place to worry about things because God takes great care of us. And the key is in verse 33. It says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” NIV We just need to seek Him, and He will supply everything we need. And look, this means seeking Him always, every day, not just occasionally.
Other similar verses in Psalm 34, verse 9 says, “Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.” NIV And verse 10 says, “The young lions grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack nothing.” NIV Again, if we are seeking Him, He will provide for us.
Many people are very worried, thinking, “How am I going to pay for this?” or “How can I get a good job to meet our needs?” And this is normal, but biblically we don’t have to worry if we are serving Him because He will supply our needs.
I really like the promise in Philippians 4:19, which says, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” NIV, It doesn’t say some of your needs, but all your needs.
And let me mention something else important about this. To see our needs met, we must also do what God requires. Philippians 4:19 was written to a generous church that was sending offerings to Paul while he was in prison. So, we must be generous as God is generous.
God said in Malachi 3:8-10, “Will a person rob God? Yet you are robbing me! And you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a great curse, for you are robbing me.10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,“ says the Lord Almighty, ”and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. NIV God’s command to His people is that we must tithe, which is the first 10% of our income. And if we do this, He will bless us. And we can also give offerings on top of this 10%. I have seen this many times in my life: when we seek God first and when we are generous in doing what is right, God blesses us and always provides. Look at what 2 Corinthians 9:7 says: “Each of
you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” NIV
This is the right attitude for giving, with joy. And that is because God is a cheerful and very generous giver.
If you are going through problems and if you are lacking today, God is your answer. Perhaps you are lacking because you have not been generous or have not tithed. Well, you can start today. Or perhaps it is because you are not serving God and are not living well. You can ask for forgiveness today and start doing the right thing, and God will bless you and provide for you. How wonderful that God is a provider.
