God Loves You

Boys and girls in many countries are studying these same lessons. So are many of their parents and older brothers and sisters. Why? Because they all like to read about these great men and women who lived long ago. And because it is fun to look at the pictures and to do the things that you are asked to do in each lesson. Most of all you will like these lessons because of what you will learn about God.

God Loves You | Lesson 4

God Will Help You Be Good

Learn this about God:

God teaches His children to do what is right. God’s enemy tries to make people sin. Sin separated Adam and Eve from God. God still loves those who have done wrong. God tells you what to do in the Bible.

These words are from the Bible. Read them aloud 5 times.

The Lord God charged the man: You may eat freely from every tree in the garden; but do not eat from the tree of knowing good and evil; for the day you eat from it you will certainly die. Genesis 2:16, 17 (BV)

Words for you to learn

  • Sin means to disobey God or to do wrong.
  • Sins are bad things a person does or says.
  • Evil means bad.
  • The devil is God’s enemy who tries to make people sin.
  • Satan is another name for the devil.

To do as you read and study this lesson

Ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Think about the meaning of each underlined sentence.

God teaches His children to do what is right.

Adam and Eve lived in a perfect world. Everything that God had made was good. Adam and Eve were good. God had made them good like Himself.

God told Adam and Eve what to do. God told them what they should not do. God told them not to eat the fruit of a certain tree. He warned them that if they did eat it, they would die.

God loved Adam and Eve. He wanted them to do right. God didn’t want them to die.

God’s enemy tries to make people sin.

God has an enemy called the devil or Satan. God is good, but the devil is bad. God helps people to be good and do what is right. The devil tries to make people do wrong.

One day the devil came into the Garden of Eden. The devil used a snake to talk to Eve for him. The snake showed Eve the fruit that God had told her not to eat. The devil told Eve a lie. “Eat that fruit,” the devil said, “and you will not die. You will be as wise as God.”

Eve knew that she should obey God. But she listened to the devil’s lie. Eve ate some of the fruit that God had told her not to eat. Eve gave some to Adam, and he ate it too. Both Adam and Eve sinned. Then something terrible happened!

Sin separated Adam and Eve from God. Adam and Eve had always loved God, but now they were afraid of Him. They knew they had done wrong. They tried to hide from God. They were naked and ashamed. They made themselves clothes of leaves. But the clothes were no good.

God still loves those who have done wrong.

No one can hide from God. God saw what Adam and Eve had done. But God still loved them. He made them clothes from animal skins.

God talked with Adam and Eve about their sin. God had to punish them for doing wrong. God punished them to teach them to do right. They had to leave their beautiful home in Eden. Their sin brought sickness and death into the world. But God told Adam and Eve that a Savior would come. The Savior would make things right again.

God tells you what to do in the Bible.

God tells you what is right and what is wrong. Have you done things that you knew were wrong? God still loves you and wants to help you. Tell God you are sorry. Ask Him to help you be good. Then do what God says, and you will be happy. Say this prayer to God before you go to bed.

Prayer

I’m sorry God, for all the times That I’ve done wrong instead of right. Please help me do what You tell me to. And now take care of me tonight.
