God Loves You

Boys and girls in many countries are studying these same lessons. So are many of their parents and older brothers and sisters. Why? Because they all like to read about these great men and women who lived long ago. And because it is fun to look at the pictures and to do the things that you are asked to do in each lesson. Most of all you will like these lessons because of what you will learn about God.

God Loves You | Lesson 10

God Will Lead You

Learn this about God:

  • God called Abram to follow Him.
  • God leads and blesses those who follow Him.
  • God leads you by His book—the Bible.

These words are from the Bible. Read them aloud 5 times.

After the death of Abram’s father, God told him . . . Go to the land I will guide you to. If you do, I will cause you to become the father of a great nation; I will bless you . . . . and you will be a blessing. Genesis 12:1, 2 (LBM)

Words for you to learn

Ur is the city where Abram lived.

Canaan is the country to which God led Abram.

To do as you read and study this lesson

Ask God to help you understand what you are reading. Think about the meaning of each underlined sentence.

God called Abram to follow Him.

Some of the families who left Babel built the city of Ur. Abram was born in Ur. Abram’s father prayed to many gods. Abram’s people prayed to many gods— gods that could not see or hear. They did not know the one true God. They did not have the Bible to tell them about the one true God.

Abram didn’t know the true God. But God knew Abram and loved him. God called Abram and told him: “Leave your home and country. Leave your father’s gods. Follow me to the land I will show you.”

God leads and blesses those who follow Him.

God promised Abram: “If you follow me, I will bless you and make you great. I will make you the father of a great nation. I will bless you and you will be a blessing.”

Abram knew that the one true God had called him. Abram believed what God had told him. Abram’s wife, Sarai, believed God’s promise too. Abram and Sarai left the city of Ur. They left the gods that people had made. They followed the one true God.

Abram and God were good friends. Abram talked with God. God talked with Abram. God went with Abram and showed him which road to take. God led Abram to the land of Canaan.

Wherever Abram and Sarai lived, Abram built an altar to God. He offered sacrifices to God like Abel, Enoch, and Noah had done. Abram was a blessing, or help, to many people. He told them about the true and living God.

God always does what He promises to do. God blessed Abram and made him rich. But Abram became old and still had no children. Still he believed God’s promise. And God was happy because Abram believed Him.

God changed Abram’s name to Abraham. Abraham means “father of many.” God changed Sarai’s name to Sarah. Sarah means “mother of princes.” God gave Abraham and Sarah a son called Isaac. And a great nation came from him.

God leads you by His book—the Bible.

In the Bible God calls you to follow Him. He promises to lead you and bless you. He tells you what to do. Follow God, and He will lead you to heaven. No matter what you have to give up, follow God, like Abram did. God will help you and show you what to do.

Prayer

Abraham left his own country and friends And followed You all of his days. Let me follow, too. Let me walk close to You And please You in all of my ways.
