Daughters – Part 3: Daughters of Design

The third part of Erin Nicole Thompson's' Daughters Series.

Is Your Design Done Yet?

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

Thump. Thump. Thump. An unborn child’s heart starts to beat before it is fully formed. It starts to function before it is finished. I had been receiving weekly updates on my fetus’s development when I realized this and was amazed. I remember reading an entry from the 9th week that “the fetus’ heart had finished dividing into four chambers and the valves were starting to form.”

However flash back to the 3rd week when I recalled that the baby’s “heart began to beat and pump blood.” A mere 22 days in, a heart begins to beat.

But wait I thought – it wasn’t finished being formed and yet it was functioning to pump blood?

How fascinating!

Is our design done yet? Are we finished? I don’t think so. We were made to be like God, in his image (Gen. 1:26-27). We are made and formed by God (Ps. 119:73). But as it stands he is not finished with us. As we walk with him he continues to shape our minds, our characters, and our callings. Though we are not finished, we still have a function, a vital role to fill.

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image” (2 Cor. 3:18).

The barrier or “veil” that once separated us is now gone. And we begin to reflect the glory of the Lord! How beautiful that God lets us reflect him before we are fully like him. And his Spirit transforms us to be more and more like the image of God.

As we walk in connection to our Creator, we can find healing from our wounds, triumphs from our trials, freedom from our bondage, and integrity from our faults. As we walk with him and be- come more like him, we reflect his glory with increasing radiance. Fascinating! We have a function, before we are finished!

When my husband and I got married, I was a horrible listener. I was absorbed in myself and would always interrupt him with my agenda. However, my man is a gifted listener so little by little, he rubbed off on me. Despite this deficiency when we first married, each day I am growing.

In Christ we are rescued, and then we start to look, love, and live more like our Father. The Holy Spirit is working with our pliable hearts and hands to help us mirror the radiant image of our loving Dad. His design isn’t finished, but he gives us a vital function in his Kingdom plan.

Remember, God is the one who will continue to do the work in you. “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns” (Phil. 1:6).

Dad, we give you the “Most Patient Father” award. You gently continue to steer us back onto the path you have for us. You kindly continue to draw us back to your loving presence. You give us the honor of reflecting your light and life to a dark and dying world. May we shine bright! Love, Your Daughters
