Daughters – Part 2: Daughters of Delight

The second part of Erin Nicole Thompson's' Daughters Series.

Adored by His Unfailing Love

“Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love.” Micah 7:18

The pouty face. Maybe you’ve seen one on your first-born or used it yourself. The eyes that look up under furrowed brows. The plump lower lip thrown in for added affect. The slow motion blinking of thickened eyelashes. An attempt to pull on our heartstrings as they plead for mercy or maybe our money.

How can I say no? How long will my anger last or wallet hold out? How many seconds will go  by before I show love through my attitude or actions again? The beauty of exploring our relationship with the good Father is that we learn his heart through the way we treat our own.

“Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love” (Mic. 7:18).

As our Creator and our Father, God delights to show us a kind of love like we have never experienced before. Scripture coins “unfailing” love 121 times. The word “unfailing” can also mean certain, trustworthy, reliable, constant, and consistent. It is a love that endures all things and lasts beyond time itself.

Ponder those descriptions. Have you been experiencing an unending, unshakable, and abiding love?

His love is not conditional in our circumstances, in response to our choices, or based on our character.

“But God showed his great love for us in sending his son to die for us while we were still sinners” (Rom. 5:8). He loved us before we were cleaned up or cooperative.

He died for us while we still denied him.

Is there another God like him? One that demonstrates ceaseless, relentless love to his children?

God is love and the love he gives is unfailing.

Did you grow up singing Jesus Loves Me? I did. Yet I have been challenged, I know with my mind that Jesus loves me, but my heart fails to feel it. Like a barricade blocking a road. Like a plug pulled from the socket. I struggle to receive God’s love. Can you relate? If so, here is how we can plow through this barrier and plug back into the wall.

  1. Steep our minds in the truths of God’s
  2. Engage our hearts in an experience of his
  3. Open our hands to receive the gifts of his

As we engage our minds, hearts, and hands we need to ask for the aid of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will enable us to receive God’s unfailing love and bask in his adoration. When we take time to steep in God’s delight, his unfailing love will seep into the cracks of our hearts.

Father, you call us “beloved.” You call us “mine” (Song 6:3 NIV). What endearing terms of affection. What great lengths you have gone to so we may enjoy you and your love for us. You love your daughters but sometimes we struggle to feel it. Like a little girl on stage, help us dance before you and feel your delight. May we allow your adoration to seep into our souls. Love, Your Daughters
