Daughters – Part 2: Daughters of Delight

The second part of Erin Nicole Thompson's' Daughters Series.

Adored by His Aid

“They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me.” Psalm 18:18-19

I admit it. I was a couch potato. But not the channel surfing, potato chip munching version you might be picturing. I was stuck. Stuck on my kid-stained white couch, staring into the oblivion around me. Kids screaming. Dinner absent. House cluttered. Though I sat in my bright living room, it was as if I was sitting in a dark pit. One I couldn’t climb out of.

I was discouraged. I was depressed. I was in distress.

“They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me” (Ps. 18:18-19).

In this passage, the author, King David was in over his head, yet continued to walk in God’s ways. He had enemies on every side, yet he had faith God could overcome his odds. This passage illustrates God’s love when he heard King David’s cry and came to his aid. Like King David, our lives can be distressing. Certain situations, daunting. Realities around us, depressing.

But the Lord. He supports us. He comes to our aid. He dives into our dark pits and brings us into the light. He sweeps us up and shelters us in a safe place. Why? Because our Father adores us, his daughters.

On a daily basis, the Lord stands ready to deliver us from deep wounds and from our discouragement. He desires to be the hero we dream of because he yearns to show us his love. He doesn’t delight in our distress, he desires to deliver us into the light of a new day.

However, we can’t fail to miss how King David accessed God’s aid. He cried out for help and we must too. We need to admit our need for God and cry out to him.

Maybe God will use a provision to rescue you or a friend’s encouragement.

Maybe healing or medicine.

Maybe a prayer or a small group.

For me, God rescued me with the help of a Christian Counselor. They helped me think through all the factors contributing to my deep discouragement and led me on a pathway out of my distress.

May our pride not lead to our downfall. May we cry out to God and await his relief. When it comes, let us acknowledge our knight in shining armor and bask in the light of his love.

Dad, we know you don’t like it when your daughters are in distress. We know you desire to help us out because you love us so much. Father we need your help. (Say her name here) needs your help. Come to her rescue. Love, Your Daughters
