Who Is Our Savior? Part 2

Author: Sylvia Stewart

“You gave me a lot to think about when we talked last week,” Brenda said to Tanya as they sat on a park bench. They each held a steaming latte.

“I’ve been doing some Bible research on those who believed Jesus was the way to God,” Tanya said. “I thought you would be interested. Several men and one woman testified that Jesus is our Savior. Even in a law court you need only two or three witnesses to the same truth.”

“Really?” Brenda said. “Witnesses?”

“Yes, people who believed in Jesus as the way to God,” Tanya said, reaching inside her purse for a paper. “Look!” she said, pointing at it.

“We talked last week about Jesus’ claim that He is the Son of God,” Tanya went on. “He’s the first witness. God himself is the second witness. In Luke 3:21-22 He acknowledged Jesus as His Son.”

Brenda held her latte and followed Tanya’s finger as it proceeded down her list.

“John the Baptist is the third,” Tanya continued. “He pointed to Jesus and said, ‘”Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! . . . I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God”‘ (John 1:29,34).”1

Brenda and Tanya sipped their coffees. Then Tanya said, “Other witnesses are Jesus’ disciples: Peter points the Jews to ‘the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’ (2 Peter 1:11, NKJV).

“John wrote an account of Jesus’ life. He said, ‘These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name’ (John 20:31).

“Matthew records the events of Jesus’ life and miracles, ending with Jesus saying, ‘”All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations . . . . And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”‘ (Matthew 28:20). Surely he believed that Jesus was the Savior!”

“Mmm!” Brenda murmured with a thoughtful nod.

Tanya handed her the list. “This shows other witnesses,” Tanya said. “You can take it home and look them up.”

Brenda read the list aloud.

“James recommended faith in Jesus to heal and forgive sins (James 5:14-16).

“Jude wrote of ‘the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life’ (Jude 21).

“Upon seeing Jesus’ scared hands and pierced side, Thomas exclaimed, ‘My Lord and my God!’ (John 20:24-29).

“Paul proclaimed, ‘Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst’ (1 Timothy 1:15).

“The Samaritan woman and her neighbors believed. She called, ‘”Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” . . . Many of the Samaritans . . . believed in him because of the woman’s testimony. . . . They said to the woman, “We . . . know that this man really is the Savior of the world”‘ (John 4:29,39,42).

“Wow!” Brenda exclaimed. “I had no idea there were so many people who knew Jesus personally, who believed that He was the way to God!”

Tanya smiled. “Those Scripture passages convinced me to believe in Jesus as my Savior, and to accept Him into my life. Why don’t you study these verses and pray over them? They may change your mind about whether Jesus is the only way to God–our Savior.”
