Heavenly Time Capsule: Revelation 6:1-8

Many people are finding excitement in filling a “time capsule” with memorabilia. In the preceding article, we discovered heaven has something similar to this. It is a book sealed shut with seven different seals. These seals can only be opened by Jesus at the appropriate time. (I believe that it will be at the halfway mark of what many refer to as the “Great Tribulation” or times of great trouble referred to in Daniel 9:25-27 which will last for seven years.) The opening of this “time capsule” will mark the beginning of the final outpouring of the Wrath of God referred to in Colossians 3:6.

The spirit of conquest will be released with the breaking of the first seal and I believe that Daniel’s “ruler who will come” will break his covenant of peace (which he will have used to restore tranquility to the world following the disappearance of the Christians from the face of the earth).

As the second seal is broken, widespread war greater than all past wars combined will result from this spirit of conquest released upon the world, and with the breaking of the third seal there will be world wide famine of unprecedented proportions which will develop due to the shattering of the false peace and ensuing warfare. The breaking of seal four will be accompanied by a monumental death toll across the world. Following the breaking of seal five, we are given the picture of the souls of some who have accepted Christ as savior during this time of great trouble and experience martyrdom for refusing to deny their new found faith. Seal six is broken and the earth and heavens will begin to experience cataclysmic changes that will produce destruction and terror to the whole world of proportions never even imagined in man’s wildest science fiction productions of the end of the world.

Just before the seventh seal is broken, everything is put on hold while God sends an angel to put His seal on 144,000 people of Jewish descent to protect them from the tragedies yet to come, and we are given a final picture of the martyrs having come out of this time of trouble and standing before the throne of God as His servants. Following the breaking of the seventh seal, an ominous silence settles over all the heavens and the earth itself. The book is ready to be opened and the beginning of the end has arrived.

God does not record these future pictures to terrify us, but to remind us that He is sovereign.

Mankind cannot determine, or control, his own destiny. In man’s portrayal of end time events and catastrophes, man is always able to eventually overcome the threat to mankind and the world as we know it by blowing up the approaching meteorite, or in some other way triumphing over the impending disaster. In reality, there will come a time when mankind will not be able to stop what is coming. Mankind will have to submit to the authority and power of the almighty God and give Him the recognition that belongs to Him. God is not on an ego trip – He is God and therefore cannot settle for any less than the respect and honor that is due to the one and only true God. The prophet Isaiah records God’s message to the world in Isaiah 44:6, “This is what the LORD says– Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.”

Everyone has the right to believe what ever they choose, but belief does not necessarily produce fact – otherwise, I would believe that I was a millionaire and all my financial woes would be over. Are you willing to stake your life on what you believe? After all, you really are whether you realize it or not. I encourage you to honestly evaluate your belief structure and see if it will hold up against eternity. Most of all, I would encourage you to take an honest look at God’s message recorded in the Bible. Check out the Bible’s claims, history and accuracy, and then listen to your heart.
