Delight in the Lord

Psalm 37:3-7

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourself over the one that prospers in his way; over the man who carries out evil devices.

This is my first blog that has not been strictly related to my health journey, but felt it was important to share some thoughts on this wonderful scripture. As I sit here in the frigid temperatures of Rochester, MN about to go for surgery tomorrow, I am constantly reminded of the ever-present presence of God and His unending faithfulness. God has truly changed my heart through this health journey and I am forever grateful to him for what He has done and the second chance He has given to me.

The scripture above starts off with Trust in the Lord and do good. Now I do not know you but that can be very difficult in times of difficulty and adversity. To trust God, we need to first recognize who He is. Once we understand the power, love, grace and mercy that God has for us we begin to desire nothing but good, honor and love for the Father and those around us.

As we develop a constant trust in God, and hunger for more of him, He will develop a desire within us to spend more time with Him through prayer, reading/studying the word and fellowship with other believers. I pray often that God will give me an insatiable hunger for His word and prayer, and that I can have as much relationship with Him that he will allow himself available.

I am convinced that the true definition of, “Delight yourself in the Lord”, means spending time with him and grow in your love and trust for Him and recognize how much He loves us. Then as He promises to give the desire of our hearts, we learn that His desires become our desires that he brings to our hearts.

As we know Him, trust, and delight in Him it becomes natural for a believer to daily surrender their lives to Him and to His purposes and His will for our lives. As our lives and desires become aligned with His for our lives we begin to commit our plans to Him and trust that He will act. In doing this we recognize that we have given control of our lives to the God and we trust Him no matter what the results may be. Our God is a God of Hope and He knows what’s best for us past, present and future. Psalm 16:11 tells us that, “in His presence there is fullness of joy”.

Don’t live your life in worry or fear based on your situation but spend consistent heartfelt time with Jesus and don’t just know about Him but KNOW HIM! He stands and your hearts door and knocks, just invite Him in. Let’s become pursuers of God and truly seek Him no matter what your situation, He will always be with you…
