Wasting Time

Author: Dave Arnold

There was a young art student assigned to paint a sunset. He sat on the brow of a hill, looking across, trying to capture on canvas the glory that filled the western sky. However, he spent too much time working on one detail. The teacher came along, and said, “Look, the sun is almost down, and you are spending your time putting a roof on the barn”.

“The application is clear for all of us. The sun is going down. What a tragedy to shingle a barn and miss the sunset—to let the bad, or even the good, keep us from the best. There is nothing wrong with painting the barn, but everything is wrong if it makes you miss painting the sunset”.1

“It is time for you to wake up and see what is right before your eyes” (Romans 13:11). “Time” means “the right moment” (Lightfoot).2

“The greatest waste in all of our earth is our waste of the time God has given us each day” (Billy Graham).3
