Day 327: The Way to Health

Author: Margaret Mills

Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 2:24

Central Thought: The effects of sin have been healed by the stripes of Jesus.

Some view this verse as promising healing for spiritual wounds only; others have focused exclusively on its provision for physical healing. Either interpretation leaves something to be desired. The Fall resulted in woundedness in the human race on every level. Sin shows its effects in every area of life: in the body as illness, in the soul (mind, emotions, and will) as all manner of wicked thoughts and tormented feelings, and in the spirit as separation from God and all that is righteous and holy. Science tells us there are deep connections between spiritual health, mental and emotional health, and physical health. Sickness in one area is often a symptom of sickness in another.

A good time to reflect on the benefit of the stripes of Jesus is during communion, while partaking of the bread. ‘Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me” (1 Corinthians 11:24, KJV). Receive His broken body, recall the stripes that purchased our healing, and be made whole in every area of your life.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, I humbly receive the healing of all wounds, whether in my body, soul, or spirit. I thank You for the stripes that made it possible.

Today’s Bible Reading: Ezekiel 47:1-48:35; 1 Peter 2:11-3:7; Psalm 119: 119-64; Proverbs 28:12-13
