Day 78: Kindness Quotient

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 11:16-17

Kind people are usually more readily accepted in society than those who are unkind or unfriendly. My attitude toward others affects the attitude of others toward me.

More importantly, my attitude of kindness or unkindness affects the attitude of others toward Christ, the One I represent. Just as an employer would not want an agent of his company to be verbally or physically aggressive toward his clients, Christ Jesus wants those who believe in Him to be good representatives of His character. My kindness or the lack of it colors the atmosphere of what I say about Christ. It creates in the hearer a desire to accept or reject the witness I bear for Him.

If I want my testimony about Jesus to be accepted, I need to make kindness a habit in my life. If I am unkind in any situation, I take the risk that someone who knows I believe in Christ will reject Him as their Savior because of my unkind words or actions.

Bob Kerrey, a Navy SEAL in Vietnam in 1969, said, ‘One thing I learned: Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly, and most under-rated agent of human change.” Kindness is one of those commodities that is never wasted. Even if it is rejected by its target, the giver still benefits.

I must ask myself, ‘How will those I meet today rate my Kindness Quotient?”

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to practice random acts of kindness today. May my kindness truly represent Your love.
