It is Possible to Walk on Water

Author: Dave Arnold

William Saroyan (1908 – 1981) was an author and playwright.

He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1940, and, in 1943, won the Academy Award for Best Story for his adaptation of his novel The Human Comedy. His self-confidence was inspired at the age of 13.

He had purchased a typewriter when his esteemed uncle, Garabed, came to visit him.

“My boy, what’s that contraption?” the old gentleman asked.

“A typewriter, sir,” answered William.

“What’s it for?”

“For clear writing, sir.” William then handed him a sample.

“What’s this writing?”

“Philosophical sayings,” William replied.

“Whose?” Uncle Garabed quizzed.

“Mine, sir.” The wise old fellow studied the sheet, handed it back to his nephew, and said,

“Proceed, for it is not impossible to walk on water.”

William Saroyan recalled, “I knew then I could do it!”1

“Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water” (Matthew 14:29).
