Endless Hope
Author: Dave ArnoldSir Francis Drake (1540 – 1596) was an English sea captain and navigator of the Elizabethan Era. His exploits were legendary. Drake carried out the second circumnavigation of the world in a single expedition, from 1577 – 1580, and was the first to complete it as captain and leader of the expedition throughout the entire circumnavigation. Elizabeth 1 of England awarded Drake knighthood in 1581.
A man spent his life as a sailor in the British navy sailing in Drake’s fleet. He never gained fame or wealth. One day someone asked him,
“You really haven’t made much of your life, have you?”
“No,” the sailor replied, “I haven’t. I have been cold, hungry, shipwrecked, and desperately frightened at times. However, I’ve been with the greatest captain who ever sailed the seas!”1
Hebrews 2:10 refers to Christ as “the Captain of our salvation.” “Captain” means “originator, founder, or author. By His death, resurrection, and ascension, Jesus Christ originated our salvation.”2
“Life with Christ is an endless hope; without Him a hopeless end.”3
