Day 101: Small Act of Faith-Mighty Deliverance
Author: Kathy VarisToday’s Scripture: Joshua 2:21
Central Thought: It takes only a little faith in a big God to experience deliverance.
Rahab lived in Jericho, a city that stood between the people of Israel and their promised inheritance. Rahab was not a prominent citizen; in fact, she was one of the lowest—a prostitute. Two of Joshua’s spies found themselves on Rahab’s roof hidden under some flax because the king of Jericho was looking for them.
Rahab told the two men that everyone had already heard about how the Lord had dried up the Red Sea for the Israelites and how they had utterly destroyed the Amorites. Everyone was scared! They knew what God could do.
Rahab protected the men and helped them escape, hoping that they would remember her and her family and protect them. The spies told Rahab that she would be safe as long as she displayed a scarlet cord from her window. As soon as she helped the spies escape, she tied the scarlet cord on her window.
Though Rahab may have been the lowest person in the city, she believed in the God she had heard about. By faith, she tied the cord in her window. It was a small thing, but Rahab and those who were with her in her house when God destroyed Jericho were delivered from death because she acted on her faith.
How many times do believers have to take small steps of faith? When we ask Christ into our lives, it takes a small step of faith; but God is there to save us, help us, change us, watch over us, and be with us forever. All through our lives, God wants us to take that small step toward Him; and He will take a giant step towards us.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, You said if we had faith like a tiny mustard seed, we could move mountains. Help me to take a small step of faith toward You today.
