The Year of Broken Christmas Tree Lights

Author: Angela Craig

“The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.”

– Walt Disney Company, Mulan

There are no words needed to tell you what is wrong with this Christmas tree. But maybe when you look at it, you see more than a tree with broken lights. You see a metaphor for your own life circumstances. A life that was once filled with hope and light somehow had the lights turned out, leaving you in the dark.

Like this string of lights, it may seem that no matter what you do or how hard you try, you cannot find the broken bulb that is making the entire string go out. In fact, it may seem, the more bulbs you twist, the more lights go out!

Even if you have given up on fixing the broken pieces of your life, God hasn’t.

Be honest with Him about your pain.

Be honest about what you have lost.

Be honest about your need.

Be honest about your mistakes.

He is the one who knows every detail of your life, past, present, future. He will help you.

If you are ready, here is a prayer I wrote for you. I will be praying and believing with you.

My heart will not be troubled for I believe in God. I believe in Jesus (John 14:1). The Lord is healing my broken heart and binding up my wounds (Psalm 147:3). As I seek the Lord with this pray, He hears me, He answers me, and he wipes away my fears (Psalm 34:4). A bruised reed, I shall not break (Isa 42:3) for I am the daughter (son) of the King, our Lord who lives in the high and holy places, and who also lives with the low-spirited, the spirit-crushed. He is putting a new spirit in me and getting me back up on my feet again today (Isa 57:15). Today, my Father is restoring my health and healing my wounds (Jer 30:17), for the plans He has for my life are plans of good purpose, not of evil. They are plans for a future and a hope (Jer 29:11). I thank you Lord for coming quickly to my aid, for never leaving me or forsaking me (Deut 31:6). Thank you for seeing and hearing me. You are all that I need.
