We are the Treasure

Author: Chad Dawes

Matthew 13:44-46 The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

Sometimes I feel like a ship lost at sea, being tossed this way and that by the waves, never really seeing my destination. And I often lose the one thing that keeps me going my faith. But no matter how hard it gets, I have to remember that the kingdom of heaven is like a wonderful treasure, not lacking anything. That is my prize, yet I often misplace my course and lose sight of the greater cause.

My life and my example are only glimpses in the world; therefore, I must cling to the things that Jesus has for me. Too many times we fall and never get back up. And at those very moments, we have a choice to make. We can stay down and blame God, the world and ourselves for our inability, or we can rise and choose life abundant, learn from our mistakes and seek after those hidden treasures.

I sometimes feel like my generation has abandoned hope and joined false happiness among sinking ships. You see, that is why Jesus finished the parable in Matthew 13:44-46. Not only is the kingdom of heaven like a treasure, but it is also like the merchant, and we are the pearls of great value. Next time you are feeling distraught, remember that God sold everything (Jesus) simply to purchase you-the fine pearl.
