Voices

Author: Cami Griffith

Every day we are bombarded with a hundred different voices… the television, our family, friends, co-workers, strangers, and all the little things we hear in our own minds. And then you have the voice of God which should be above all other voices. The more you hear something the more you start to believe it, but when there are all these different voices going on all around you and inside you, you can become confused as to what is true and what is not when you aren’t fully grounded in the truth, in the voice of Jesus.

Now when I say hearing voices I don’t mean you have some sort of disorder or mental illness, I’m talking about the “voices”, the feelings, the thoughts you “hear” or feel every day consciously and subconsciously. It is highly important that we recognize not just what we “hear” but whose voice we are hearing from, that we identify what is of God and what is not.

Often times we give so much power to the voice of weakness, shame, and pain. We live by what we hear, by the “you’re not good enough”, “you’re in too much pain”, “it isn’t worth it”, “just do it some other day”, all those different phrases that leave us feeling dry, lifeless, and broken. But the amazing thing is, we have the power, the blessing to actively choose every single moment of every single day the voice we listen to.

We must be grounded in the voice of the Lord. We are not children who do not recognize the voice of our Father, no. We know the voice of the Lord by the truth He speaks, by the life and love and boldness He speaks over us and into us every day if we will just tune into His voice and His voice only.

The voice you amplify is the voice you live by. Are you amplifying hope, joy, truth, love, grace, kindness, courage, the goodness of the Lord? Or are you amplifying pain, hatred, self-hatred, insecurity, shame, the lies of the enemy? Whatever voice you are amplifying, that you are speaking into existence, that is the voice in which you live by, and that is the voice that determines where you go and what you do and how you do it. Are you tuning into the voice of God or the voice of the enemy?

When we wake up every blessed new day, we have a choice. So choose Jesus. Choose His voice, His truth, His life, and love. Don’t give the enemy power. Don’t you dare for a second listen to the lies that are used to kill you, to hold you back and hold you down, to destroy you and keep you from your calling. Stop listening to and declaring the voice that determines your identity as failure, sick, broken, poor, shameful, and start listening to and actively and loudly declaring the voice that identifies you as free, forgiven, loved, pure, abundantly blessed, and truly alive.

The voice of truth, the voice of God will never lead you astray and will never leave you dry, empty, or confused. Don’t answer to the voice that calls you sickness, because your name is healed. Don’t listen to the voice that calls brokenness, because you don’t live in that place anymore. Don’t listen to anything but the truth. God is the one who declares new life, a hope, and a future over you, listen to Him and let all the other voices fade away.
