Nothing Wasted

Author: Cami Griffith

You would never call time of doing nothing with an earthly lover a waste of time would you?

Would you call sitting at home doing nothing with your spouse a waste? No. Because it is in that time, even when you perceive it as nothing happening, that everything is happening, the most important things are happening. You are together and you are growing. You are building up your relationship when you spend time together, even if you aren’t doing something fun or extravagant. Same thing with us and our relationship with God. In your seasons of life where it feels like you are barely moving and like nothing is happening, you are just waiting and feel like you aren’t getting anywhere, rest in knowing that there is simply goodness and growth in that place, that place where you can just focus in on and tune into the presence of the Lord in a deeper place without distraction. Growing closer and closer to the Father. Not wasting in the waiting.

Let us not dare for even a second to confuse the wait to receive promises from God with a delay in the goodness of God. Delay is not a part of His character, His goodness is constant and His presence is real, there is no beginning, there is no end, He just is, always has been, and always will be. He doesn’t hear your prayers then turn the other cheek, no, He hears your prayers and is actively fulfilling His promises to you before you even knew you desired to receive that promise.

God always has a purpose for you, wherever you are at. On the highest mountain, in the lowest valley. On stage or in a hospital bed. In New York City or a small village in India. In the season of seeing your prayers become reality and in the season of waiting for just the next step. Through it all, He is good. Through it all, He has a magnificent purpose for you.

Stop calling your wait a waste and start calling your wait a worthy time of refining your faith and opening your heart and hands up in preparation to receive the promise, and more importantly to grow deeper in intimacy with your Creator. The Father NEVER wastes. Not one day, not one second, not one blink, not one season. God has a purpose for everything. He is intentional, always.

Yeah, you may be “going through it” but you aren’t going through it alone. Ever. Whatever it is, health issues, broken relationships, job loss, the death of someone you love, depression, the valley of the shadow of death itself, wherever you are at in life, YOU, child, are not alone. And there is no wasted space, no wasted time here in this place of waiting on the Lord. In your time of waiting and praying earnestly, draw close to Him, and rest in knowing Who He is and that with Him, your Father, nothing in your life is ever wasted.

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Psalm 27:13-14

“The Lord does not delay [as though He were unable to act] and is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is [extraordinarily] patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

“Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” Isaiah 64:4
