The Greatest Demonstration of God’s Love.
In past lessons, we have mentioned that the love of God comes from the Greek word agape. Which is the greatest and deepest love that always thinks of others above oneself.
In the last message in this series, we are going to be talking about the greatest demonstration of this agape love that the world has ever seen. God’s true love, like 1 John 4:8 says, “God is love.”
Sadly, before the coming of Christ, the people of the world were slaves to sin 100%, and there was no remedy or relief.
There was some forgiveness through animal sacrifices, but this could not free or change a person. Everyone was trapped by sin. It is the same for people today who are not yet Christians. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (NIV)
John 8:34 says, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin,” said Jesus. (NIV) That is the world and the problem of sin.
But God, with so much love for us, this agape, gave the best of heaven to rescue and save us from this problem of sin. He sent and gave His precious Son to pay the penalty for our sins.
How many of us could give the life of our child to rescue people who are honestly not worthy of this? I believe that none of us could. But God, because of His great love, and the Lord Jesus also gave Himself by this great love. Christ went to the cross to give His blood and life to rescue and save us. That is why you and I have forgiveness, new life, and eternal life. This is true love, it is agape, and it is the greatest example of love there is.
Look at what John 3:16-17 says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (NIV)
This is love, agape. If you want to see true love, look at the cross.
John 15:12-13 is also very interesting. It says, “This is my command: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (NIV)
He gave everything for us, calling us friends. How good and beautiful.
How many of us deserved this? None, but look at Romans 5:8, which says, But God demonstrates his love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
How wonderful that God loves us so much with this agape love. That is why we must show this love of His to others.
We must know that this love of His is with us today. If you need this love, this forgiveness, and new life, all you have to do is ask for help from this God who loves you so much.
Thank God for His love, His agape love.
