Geese Can Be Smarter Than Humans

Author: Robert Strand

Have you ever watched a flock of geese heading to a warmer climate for the winter? Have you noticed they fly in a “V” formation?

It is interesting what scientists have learned about the way they fly.

By flying in this V formation, the whole flock can fly 71% farther than if each bird flew alone. Why? When a goose flaps its wings, it creates an updraft for the goose that follows.
As the lead goose gets tired, he/she will rotate to the back of the V and allow another goose to take the lead position.
The geese in back honk to encourage those in the front.
Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it immediately feels the resistance of trying to fly alone and quickly gets back into formation.
Should a goose gets sick or wounded and falls out of the formation…two other geese will follow it down to help and protect it. They will stay with the wounded goose until it is better or dies and they will then join up with a new formation or create one of their own to catch up with the group.
Smart birds, these geese. Where did they get such wisdom? Remember who was their Creator? The lessons are wisdom to live by. By sharing together we can all fly further. By honking encouragement we all experience a better lifestyle. By staying in formation we become a team that gets the job done. By taking care of their hurting and wounded they build a loyalty that lasts a lifetime. They teach the lesson on “synergy” which we all need to learn!

“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in humility that comes from wisdom” (James 3:12).
