Day 4: Wisdom’s Call

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 1:20-23

Central Thought: We need to respond positively to God’s wisdom

Ed wandered through the myriad of corridors at the large office building trying to find his way out. At last, he spotted an exit and pushed the handle to go out. Suddenly a warning buzzer screamed in his ear, and he realized that there was a warning sign on this door stating that an alarm would go off when the door opened. As people emerged from their various offices, Ed looked for a way to get away from his embarrassing situation.

Not listening to God’s warnings or heeding His Word carries far more serious consequences than a bit of embarrassment. In today’s passage, God describes His wisdom as being as obvious as a woman crying out in the streets-nearly impossible to avoid. Yet, many people do just that-ignore God’s wisdom and bring destruction to their lives.

We can make the right choice and listen to God’s message to us. He can speak to us through His Word, through circumstances, or through other believers. Regardless of the source of the message, we need to listen and heed its content. Look for those divine messages that can come at any time. Then, plan to follow that message of wisdom.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to listen to Your wisdom.
