Day 38: Set Free
Author: Robert HayesToday’s Scripture: Psalm 31:1-8
Central Thought: God is our rescuer
The nation held its collective breath for 58 hours as it awaited the outcome of the rescue efforts of the emergency teams in Midland, Texas. Jessica McClure, an 18-month-old girl, was trapped in an 18-inch pipe of an abandoned oil well near her home. Prayers for her rescue and her rescuers streamed to heaven. At 8:30 p.m. on October 16, 1987, prayers were answered. Baby Jessica was freed from her prison.
As we read David’s prayer in this Psalm, it reminds us that no matter how deep the well or how tight the situation we get ourselves into, God is there to help us. We can always be sure that God will be with us in our times of troubles and will ultimately bring us through to victory if we trust Him.
If you are in a tight spot today and you need help getting out, follow David’s example. Call out to your Rescuer. He will be there to comfort you through the tough times. Don’t struggle and fret. God knows where you are, and He will deliver you from your prison at just the right time.
Devotional Prayer: God, help me to trust You with the circumstances of my life.
