Day 270: How We Should Live

Author: Sherman Shell

Today’s Scripture: Ephesians 4:17-32

Central Thought: Since God is our God, we should live as He wants us to live.

God decreed punishment for all who sin—all of us. But he provided a way for us to be saved through Jesus Christ His Son. He has not saved us so we can continue in the lives we previously lived. Rather we are to be new creations, living as He want us to live: in the light of true knowledge, always speaking the truth, avoiding greed, being generous, running away from sensuality, demonstrating kindness, working diligently, forgiving others—and the list goes on.

For us to live as God wants us to live, our minds and our ways of thinking must change. Our minds are changed as we continue to immerse ourselves in prayer, study His Word, fellowship with other believers, and actively focus on His will, His way.

Salvation is a dividing line between what we were and what we are to become. We have to learn the new Way, the new life, the new way of doing things—God’s way! We have the rest of our lives to ‘reprogram” ourselves so we can live lives pleasing to Him. As children emulate their parents and want to be just like them, so we should strive to emulate our Heavenly Father.

Devotional Prayer: Father, help us to diligently seek truth, do what is right, and allow Your Word to reshape us into what You designed us to be. Help us to be children in whom You delight.
