Day 265: Practical Christian Living

Author: Richard L. Schoonover

Today’s Scripture: Galatians 6:1-18

Central Thought: The Spirit-filled life demonstrates itself in practical ways.

Some people accuse Christians of being so heavenly minded they are of no earthly good. But this is not an accurate description of a true follower of Jesus Christ. True Christianity expresses itself in practical ways. In the closing words of his letter to the churches in Galatia, Paul gave some practical advice on Christian living.

First, Christians will care about the spiritual lives of their fellow believers. Because we are filled with the Spirit and have the fruit of the Spirit working in our lives, we will, in gentleness, try to help one who has been overtaken by sin. At the same time, we will recognize that we also are vulnerable to sin.

Second, Christians will help those who have burdens that seem overwhelming. Doing good to others is a priority in the life of a Christian.

Third, Christians will live Spirit-filled lives of humility. We will evaluate our own spiritual life according to God’s Word and seek to live in a way that pleases God. We will realize that our actions have consequences.

Evaluate your life today. How are you measuring up to Paul’s instructions in Galatians 6? What changes might you need to make in your life? Ask God to help you live like a Spirit-filled believer. His Spirit is here to guide your life.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to demonstrate the Spirit in my life in practical ways.
