Day 269: The Carrier or the Carried?

Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 46:1-10

Central Thought: The foolish man carries his ‘god,” the wise man is carried by his God!

Bel and Nebo were two of the idols/gods in the ancient kingdom of Babylon. When they went anywhere they were carried on the backs of animals because they were not able to carry themselves. And they certainly could not carry anyone else. These idols were very heavy and difficult burdens for the animals.

The True God, on the other hand, comes and goes when and wherever He wishes. No one carries Him. Actually, He carries us (as represented by Israel in verses 3 and 4) ‘before your birth…to your old age.”

How often do we depend on our own abilities, our own wisdom, or our own wealth to solve our problems? And when they fail do we turn to family, friends, church, credit cards, loan sharks, doctors, lawyers—insert your own gods—for help? Or do we talk to the One who loves us enough to die for us?

God compared himself with the gods created by man. He continues to try reveal to mankind that He is the only God.

Devotional Prayer: Father, help us remember in prosperity or in poverty that You are the only God. Period! We affirm again our total commitment to You—heart, soul, mind, and spirit. Thank You for being committed to us!
