Day 262: Becoming Sons of God
Author: Richard L. SchoonoverToday’s Scripture: Galatians 3:23-4:31
Central Thought: We become sons of God through faith in Christ.
Both of our children are adopted. My wife and I vividly recall the two phone calls from the adoption agency letting us know we had been selected to be the adoptive parents of our son and then our daughter. As we prepared to make the ensuing trips to the adoption agency to receive our children, God began to put a love in our hearts for these little ones whom we had not yet seen. Even though our children are now young adults, the joy of these moments lives on.
In a similar way, God has chosen us to be adopted as His children. Our adoption fee was paid by Christ’s death on the Cross. And as God’s children, we receive all that He has promised for us. This includes the ‘full rights” as sons.
Prior to coming to Christ we were bound by sin that separated us from God. But now, God is our Father and we have a loving relationship with Him. The word ‘Abba,” an Aramaic word for father, describes our intimate relationship with God. Rather than being a stern and distant God, He longs for fellowship with us.
Perhaps today you have a great need in your life. You may feel apprehensive about coming to God. You may feel you are not good enough to present your need to Him. Remember, you are a child of God. He desires to have an intimate relationship with you. Come to Him as your loving Father and let Him take care of you and your need.
Maybe you have never expressed your faith in Christ. Take that step today so you also can become a part of God’s family.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to draw close to You as my Father and feel comforted and reassured by Your presence in my life.
