Day 261: Finding True Spiritual Life
Author: Richard L. SchoonoverToday’s Scripture: Galatians 3:10-22
Central Thought: True spiritual life can only come through Jesus Christ.
Today many people claim to be spiritual. The spirituality of many is based on a combination of aspects from various religions. But many of these religions depend on good works to provide salvation. So the question is: How many good works are enough to be saved? What if I die and have not done enough good to outweigh the bad? Paul addressed this issue in Galatians 3.
The Judaizers wanted Gentile converts to obey the Law, especially with regard to circumcision and food. It is almost, if not totally, impossible for a person to keep every aspect of the Law. To fail to keep even a small part of the Law is to fail the whole. As a result, instead bringing salvation, the Law brought judgment (Deuteronomy 27:26; Galatians 3:10).
According to Paul, striving for success in the Law is doomed to failure. The Law cannot provide true spiritual life (Galatians 3:21). In fact, trying to obey the Law or basing our salvation on good works puts us in bondage. Our human nature can never produce what it takes to have a right relationship with God.
A right relationship with God can only come by placing our faith in Christ (Galatians 3:11). He took the curse of sin on himself at Calvary.
The promise of salvation through Christ can be yours today. Simply ask God to forgive your sins. Put your faith in Christ’s death on the cross as the only way of salvation.
Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to put my trust in You that I might have salvation through Jesus Christ.
