Day 256: Breaking the Yoke off Our Lives

Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 10:5-27

Central Thought: Grow in God and spiritual health until the yoke of oppression is broken.

God used the evil Assyrian nation to punish His people. It was hard for the Israelites to understand how God could allow this to happen, especially when the ungodly king gloated with pride. He thought this victory was due to his own strength and wisdom. He had placed his yoke of oppression upon the neck of God’s people.

God had a special word for this egotistical monarch. Paraphrase: ‘Don’t boast about what you have done. You are a mere instrument in My hand, like an axe or saw in the hand of a builder crying out, ‘Look what I have done!’” God went on to say, ‘When I am finished, I will light a fire and destroy you for what you have done to My people!”

God’s words of comfort for His people gave hope. ‘You have been oppressed by this yoke. I will remember and bring you home, no matter how far you are scattered.” In God’s mind He had determined an end to their troubles in ‘a little while” (verse 25).

Sometime it seems like troubles go on forever, but God has determined an end. When He has accomplished His work, the enemy cannot continue his harassment.

One final thing God said that brings hope to believers is that He would break the yoke of the oppressor off of our lives. ‘The yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil” (verse 27, NKJV), or as other translations have it, ‘because of fatness” (NASB) or ‘prosperity.” Either way, deliverance comes about through the spiritual growth and health that God gives His children.

Are you ready to see the yoke broken from off your life? Let God perform His perfect work in your life. As you submit to Him and grow spiritually, the yoke will break in two, and you can walk in glorious freedom!

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help us to grow in You until the anointing breaks the yoke of oppression off our lives.
