Day 254: Encountering God
Author: Richard J. BennettToday’s Scripture: Isaiah 6:1-8
Central Thought: Having an encounter with God will change us and prepare us to serve Him.
The call of Isaiah to a prophetic ministry is one of the most dynamic events found in Scripture. Isaiah had an encounter with God. Isaiah was given a vision in which he got a glimpse of the throne room of God, complete with angelic beings worshipping God and declaring, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3). Isaiah responded to this encounter with the holy God by decrying how utterly unholy he and all of humanity were. His confession of guilt and sin was answered by having his guilt taken away and his sins forgiven. Having been cleansed and forgiven, Isaiah was ready to respond to God’s call on his life.
Isaiah’s experience is not to be unique. Everyone who recognizes the holy nature of God and confesses his or her sins is cleansed by God. And those whom God forgives and saves are called into His service. Most of us will not be called into full-time ministry as a pastor, evangelist, or missionary. But we all are called to serve God each day as a witness for Him, whatever our vocations may be.
Will you answer God’s call to serve Him regardless of your situation? If so, you can commit yourself to God’s service with the same words Isaiah did, ‘Here am I! Send me” (6:8).
Devotional Prayer: God, we confess our need for Your forgiveness and yield ourselves to fulfill Your call on our lives.
