Day 66: Redemption-No Charge?

Today’s Scripture: Psalm :1-20

Central Thought: No man can by any means redeem his brother or give to God a ransom for him because ‘the redemption of his soul is costly”

There is a story about a little boy who, with his father’s help, built a toy boat. As the little boy was playing with his boat at the bank of the river, a sudden wind blew the boat away. Many days later the little boy saw his boat for sale on the shelf of a store, but the price was far beyond his ability to pay. He ran back home and asked his father for money to buy the boat, promising that he would work hard for many months to earn the money. Later, he bought back the boat. As he held the boat in his hand he said, ‘I owned you twice. Once I made you, and you were mine. Now I bought you, and you are mine forever!”

The story of the little boy and his boat parallels the story of the redemption of mankind. God made human beings once, but they became disobedient and ran away from God. Later, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for the forgiveness of the sins of mankind. All thanks for the work of redemption belongs to God because no human being has the ability to redeem or ‘buy-back” his own soul or the soul of another. What is impossible with man is possible with God (see Psalm :7).

Only ‘the precious blood of Christ” alone was of sufficient value in the eyes of God to effect ransom for a soul (1 Peter 1:18-19).

Devotional Prayer: Lord, thank You for the provision of salvation through Christ’s redemptive work on the cross of Calvary. Please help me to convey this message to those who have not experienced Your redemption.
