Day 3: Our Shield

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 3:1-8

Central Thought: Believers can rest in God’s protection

Who is the calmest person you have ever met? Maybe you can think of someone who always seems to keep his or her composure no matter how bad things may seem. Such people reflect a quiet calmness that also reassures those around them. Seeking such people out in stressful times helps us make it through struggles.

The Psalmist in today’s reading recognized that God gives us the most and best reasons to be calm in stormy situations. God is our shield in the battles of life. In fact, we can rest in the middle of the worst of battles because He is completely in charge and will be with us throughout every stressful and dangerous time. We can call on Him in confidence when those battles come.

The challenge for us is to learn how to trust more fully in His ability to help and protect us. We can be tempted to yield to fear and doubt when we see no easy solution to the problems we face. Yet, the solution to this fear is to let go of our attempts at controlling our situations and allow God to take charge and fight our battles.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, take over my battles and be my shield.
