Day 64: Order in God’s Camp

Author: Samuel Mathai

Today’s Scripture: Numbers 2:1-3:51

Central Thought: Each person in the Kingdom of God has a special place and responsibility

Each person who is a part of the Kingdom of God has a specific calling and is given specific responsibilities and instructions.

During the wilderness journey of the children of Israel God gave instructions to each of the twelve tribes as how to keep its position when marching and in the camp around the Tent of Meeting. The twelve tribes were instructed to assemble in groups of three tribes or clans per camp with Judah, Rueben, Ephraim, and Dan serving as camp leaders. Each camp was represented by a standard or emblem and was commanded to encamp each ‘in his own camp…and by his own standard,” (Numbers 2:52) with the ensign of their father’s house. Responsibilities were to be fulfilled in an orderly fashion.

God is a not a God of confusion, but of order and harmony. In the church He gave responsibilities and order. There is administrative staff in the church such as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers (Ephesians 4:11-13). There are diversified gifts the Holy Spirit gives to the members of the Church (1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12). In 1 Corinthians 12:7, Paul noted that ‘to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” Scripture gives instructions that will bring order in homes and work places (Ephesians 5:22-6:9).

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me keep things in order and avoid disobedience, confusion, friction, and lawlessness. May I be used today to bring unity and harmony to the body of Christ and thereby further the Kingdom of God on earth.
