Day 277: Something to Live For

Author: Richard J. Bennett

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 24:19-20

Central Thought: Without Jesus, people have nothing to live for.

Most Christians have probably known someone who lived with no regard for God yet prospered through his or her evil deeds. As believers, it is likely that we have chafed at what we perceived to be a great injustice—the wicked prosper while we, who try to do the right thing and live to please God, struggle just to get by.

But can we look past our self-centeredness to consider the future of such wicked people. The words of Proverbs 24:19-20 serve as a stark reminder to us that we must not judge success or prosperity by worldly standards. As Christians, we have the promise that God will supply our needs in this life and provide us with a home in heaven where we will never be in need.

But what do the wicked have to look forward to? They have no future hope. In a sense they have no future at all. This does not mean they will cease to exist, but that what awaits them is eternal torment away from the presence of God.

Without Jesus, people have nothing to live for. Let us ask God to help us find ways to let people know they need Jesus and that Jesus will accept and love them if they turn to Him.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to tell others about You so they will have something (and Someone) to live for.
