Day 300: Yes and No

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Titus 2:11-15

Central Thought: We should be ready to say ‘yes” to some things and ‘no” to others.

‘Oh, well, you know. You don’t get anywhere in life unless you try to fit in. I mean, it’s just something I do, but it’s not like that’s who I am.” ‘Hey, I’ve never been happier in my life. How dare you impose your values on me?” Morality, ethics, right and wrong—those words are like foreign language to many people. No wonder so many people conclude that there are no absolute standards of right and wrong.

However, when we turn to the Bible for our standards of right and wrong, we will find answers. Today’s passage instructs us to say ‘no” to ungodliness and worldly passions and ‘yes” to living a self-controlled, upright, godly life. Though this passage does not give us all of the answers to how to live such a life, we will find the ‘how to” answers by studying the rest of the Bible.

Many voices compete for our loyalties today. We need to consider what the Bible teaches about how to live and determine to say ‘yes” to the things God wants us to do and ‘no” to the things he wants us to avoid.

Devotional Prayer: Remind me of those things You want me to embrace in my life.
