Day 288: Courage to Speak

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Jeremiah 26:10-16.

Central Thought: We must stand for God’s truth despite persecution.

Gilberto sat across the conference table as his boss continued, ‘We can cut on quality, improve the packaging, and increase our prices by 30%. We’ll advertise to the ‘Gen-Xers’ on selected TV programs, and they will never know what we have done.’” Gilberto squirmed in his chair. He knew the boss did not want to hear anything about honesty, yet he knew this plan would be dishonest. He had to speak up—despite the risks.

Jeremiah spoke the message of God’s judgment against Jerusalem and was threatened with death as a result. He reminded the people that his words came from God and not from himself. If they killed him as a result of this, they would be shedding innocent blood. The people then acknowledged God’s message and Jeremiah was saved.

It takes courage to speak God’s truths when those truths are unpopular. At such times, the easy thing would be to simply say what everyone wants to hear. However, if you desire to serve God, you will only want to stand upon His Word—regardless of the consequences. Let God give you the courage to stand for Him in the face of opposition.

Devotional Prayer: Give me the courage to speak the truth despite opposition.

Today’s Bible Reading: Jeremiah 26:1-27:22; 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18; Psalm 85:1-13; Proverbs 25:16
