Day 286: The Right Words
Author: Debbie RussellToday’s Scripture: Proverbs 25:11
Central Thought: The right words can bring help and encouragement.
The Bible has a lot to say about the words that come out of our mouths. Words can bring help and healing to our own life as well as to the lives of others, or they can be damaging.
A word fitly spoken can be a tremendous help to someone. I remember a time when I was going through a very hard situation, and I was struggling. A friend asked me how I was doing, but before I could answer he began to quote Psalms 37 to me. His words to me were words fitly spoken. The words of that passage of Scripture uplifted me and gave me hope. Those words fitly spoken became my lifeline through that storm as God brought victory to me.
I heard a person share once that as Christians we should not be like a fork or knife that stabs and cuts but like a spoon that is always uplifting and nourishing.
In Psalm 19:14 we find King David asking that the words of His mouth and the meditation of his heart be pleasing to God. Oh, how we all should desire that our words and thoughts be pleasing to God.
Devotional Prayer: Father I come to you in the name of Jesus asking, as King David did, that the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you. Help my words to be uplifting and to bring hope and healing to others.
