Day 283: Love Overflowing

Author: Debbie Russell

Today’s Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 3:12

Central Thought: We should truly love one another.

When you read the Bible from cover to cover, you will find that its main message is that of love. It tells us that God is love, and His main commandment to us is to love. When Jesus was asked to identify the most important commandment, His answer was for us to love God with all our heart, soul, and strength and to love others as ourselves.

First Corinthians 13:4-8 tells us what love does and does not do. Among other things, love does not take into account wrongs done to us; and it does not seek its own way. Throughout the Epistles, the apostles admonished the churches to love each other and to be tenderhearted toward one another. This is to be our code of conduct, as well.

I heard a person say once that we judge others by what we hear them say and see them do, but we judge ourselves by the intentions of our hearts!

We must allow the Holy Spirit to help us grow in the very love of God that He has already placed in our hearts. We must allow that God-love to grow and reign in our lives instead of our selfish fleshly love.

Devotional Prayer: Father I come to You in Jesus name to simply pray that You will make my love grow and overflow to others. Teach me how to love as You do.

Today’s Bible Reading: Jeremiah 14:11-16:15; 1 Thessalonians 2:10-3:13; Psalm 80:1-19; Proverbs 25:1-5
