Day 320: Listen and Follow

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Ezekiel 33:30-33

Central Thought: We must obey the truth and not just listen to it.

‘I enjoyed the music at that church; however, the pastor preached too long.” ‘The pastor at this church sings really well, but their carpet color is atrocious and their choir sings off-key.” It can be very discouraging to be a pastor and see people who are not committed to serving the Lord and who attend church for a variety of other reasons. These people may behave more like restaurant critics than someone going to church to grow closer to God.

Ezekiel also dealt with people who gladly heard his message, yet they made no effort to heed the message. They viewed Ezekiel as an entertainer providing them with personal amusement and not as a prophet of God presenting the Lord’s message to them.

Today would be an excellent day to consider why we go to church and what God wants us to learn from our time there. If we are functioning more as consumers of church than as givers in time and ministry, we are missing God’s plan for us. We need to seek to bless others at church more than we seek to be blessed.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, I accept Your command to be a follower and not just a hearer.

Today’s Bible Reading: Ezekiel 33:1-34:31; Hebrews 13:1-25; Psalm 115:1-18; Proverbs 27:21-22
