Day 317: Promise of Peace

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: Ezekiel 28:25-26

Central Thought: As God kept His promises to Israel, we can depend on Him to keep His promises to us.

Samuel had no plans to start an inner city church when he graduated from college. He fully planned to work at his father’s church as an associate pastor and build his ministerial resume. Yet, when the opportunity came to start this inner city church, he knew it was from God. But facing a rental payment on their store front church with a nearly empty bank account was taxing Samuel’s faith.

One Sunday night a visitor left an offering that not only paid the rent, but it ensured the church could meet their budget for the next three months. Samuel rejoiced that God remembered this fledgling congregation and proved His faithfulness.

Today’s passage shows that God remembered His promise to Israel. Though the nation suffered greatly in captivity, He promised that they would be restored to their land and would once again be able to enjoy their lives there.

We also need to trust God to remember His promises to us. We may feel as if God has forgotten us from time to time, but as we read passages like this one, we will realize that He will not forget us in our time of need.

Devotional Prayer: I praise You, Lord, for Your promises to us.
