Day 28: Nothing is Hidden

Author: Nancy A. Stevens

Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 5:22-23

Central Thought: We must live honest and upright lives because nothing is hidden to God

Austin yawned as he picked up the lengthy term paper his roommate had written and browsed through it. Then he placed the report in his backpack and headed for his first class.

He confidently handed in the paper, and then skipped the rest of his classes to spend the day at the beach. He had bribed a friend to attend his psychology labs for him, so he was confident of getting a good grade. In fact, Austin expected to graduate in a couple of months with honors.

Throughout his four years of college Austin had written only one paper and taken only a few exams. He had decided that he would get higher grades and enjoy college life more if he paid or bribed other students to do his work. Little did he know that just two weeks later he would be kicked out of school for his deception.

Proverbs 5:22-23 reminds us that God sees everything. Even when a person thinks he has gotten away with his sins, he will ultimately be ensnared and brought down by them. The evildoer will be ‘led astray by his own great folly” (verse 23, NIV).

As believers, we must strive to live honest and upright lives that are above reproach, knowing that God sees all and we will someday have to give an account to Him.

Devotional Prayer: Father, help us to live each day in the awareness that nothing is hidden from You.
