Day 45: Mentoring Others

Author: Richard L. Schoonover

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 34:11-22

Central Thought: As a believer you can mentor young believers in their Christian walk

One of the roles of being a parent or a mentor is to impart spiritual wisdom to our children or others we are coaching through life. David had experienced God’s goodness and provision and wanted others to know that they could experience God’s provision as well (Psalm 34:10).

To experience God’s provision we must first submit our lives to Him (verse 11). When we submit our lives to God we will live in integrity (verses 12-14). Our speech and our actions will encourage others and bring honor to God.

Even though David was a man after God’s own heart, he still experienced heartache and difficulties (verse 19). The same is true today. Knowing Christ as Savior does not guarantee a life without problems. But David turned to God in his times of trial (verses 15-18). In the same way, God is there for us. We can find His strength and presence even in the most difficult circumstances of life (verses 20,21). Those who put their trust in God will not perish because He is with them (verse 22).

As you have experience hope in Christ, look for someone with whom you can share God’s grace. Become a mentor to someone who is just beginning their journey of a new life in Christ.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help me to take advantage of every opportunity to share God’s grace with others. And give me the wisdom and courage to mentor those who have begun a new walk with You.
