Day 130: Transformed or Conformed?

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 106:28-31

Central Thought: Christians must seek to be transformed by the power of God’s Spirit and Word.

A grandpa was talking to his teenage grandson one day about why he dressed and styled his hair as he did. ‘To be different,” was the grandson’s reply. ‘But how can you be different if all the kids look like you?” his grandpa wondered out loud.

Psalm 106 recalls the history of Israel and gives God praise for His goodness to His people, even when they often did not act like they appreciated His blessings. They failed to follow God’s commands and so learned to do as their sinful neighbors did.

Christians are called by God to be transformed, to learn to live in a way always that is pleasing to God. Too often people see Christians who are living in conformity to the world’s standards. If others cannot see a difference (besides whether one goes to a church instead of a bar) in the way a Christian lives and the way an unbeliever lives, why would they ever desire for God to change their lives?

Christians will never be perfect in this life. But if we call ourselves Christians, we must seek to be transformed by the power of God’s Spirit and Word so our lives will be a witness to others of God’s love and power.

Devotional Prayer: God, transform my life so others can see You in me that they may desire to know You, too.
