Day 129: Only Two Options
Author: Richard J. BennettToday’s Scripture: John 5:24-29
Central Thought: Eternity has only two destinations: heaven or hell.
People today like options. If you go into a coffee shop, it may take you longer to decide what type of coffee to order than it does to actually drink the coffee.
People want to believe there are options when it comes to religious beliefs as well. Tolerance is the current hot button: believe what you want (even if it is to believe in nothing), but don’t be militant about it. Live and let live. Some believe that all religions believe basically in the same thing anyway, so everyone ends up in the same place.
Jesus taught there are only two options: the resurrection of life and the resurrection of judgment. The first leads to heaven; the second, to hell. Jesus clearly stated in John 5:24, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
God is not going to weigh our good deeds against our bad deeds and grant eternal life in heaven if the scale tips to the good side. The choice is clear: option A (believe in God and receive eternal life) or option B (believe what you want and face God’s just judgment).
Which will you chose? I pray you will chose (and have chosen) to believe in God.
Devotional Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You came to make it possible for us to believe in God and receive eternal life.
