Day 127: Take Him at His Word

Author: Don Bailey

Today’s Scripture: John 4:-54

Central Thought: God expects us to accept His promises at face value.

We live in a world where deceit is common place. Corporate executives, celebrities, politicians, and even some well-known ministers have been found to be living lies. Such events can lead some to wonder if anyone can be trusted. Thankfully, we can read today’s passage and see that there is One in whom we can place our complete trust.

The royal official in today’s reading had an urgent need. His son was ill and needed a miracle to keep him from dying. When the official found Jesus and asked for that miracle, the Lord simply said, ‘You may go. Your son will live” (NIV). Instead of looking for a more spectacular healing methodology, the man chose to take Jesus at His word and accept His promise. As the official journeyed back home, his servants came to him with the news that his son was alive and doing well. The time of healing—exactly when Jesus said it would happen.

God wants us to take Him at His word with the promises He has given us in His Word. Instead of trying to figure out how God works, we should simply believe that He will do what He said He will do.

Devotional Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for being faithful to keep Your promises.
