Day 136: The Runt Versus the Giant
Author: Sherman ShellToday’s Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:10, 16, 23, 26, 32, 40, 45-51
Central Thought: Are you a runt in your own eyes or a giant-slayer?
I am still amazed at David’s faith compared with the lack of faith of the rest of Israel. The insults from Goliath continued for 40 days. It seems David only heard the challenge on the fortieth day. He couldn’t believe God’s people would stand by and not accept the challenge! David had trusted God while alone in the wilderness tending his father’s sheep when they were attacked both by a bear and a lion. Surely those creatures were more formidable than this man.
Even though David’s eldest brother, Eliab, thought of David as the runt of the family, David trusted in his God, who is well able and willing to deliver His people if they will simply trust Him.
How much do you trust in your God? Do you trust Him enough to be a victorious giant slayer rather than a runt?
Devotional Prayer: Oh, God, may I always remember You are victorious in every battle, whether physical or spiritual. It is You who gives the victory to those who demonstrate their faith in You with appropriate action.
