Day 122: Complete Honesty with God

Author: Crystal Ortmann

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 102:1-28

Central Thought: Being honest with God about our feelings is the way to true peace and praise.

A new Christian tried hard to be all God demanded, but she failed. It was impossible to keep His commands in her own strength. As life became very hard for her, she began reading the Psalms. It was there that she found life-changing lessons.

The psalmist poured out all of his feelings to the Lord. He was totally honest about his hurt, disappointment, anger, frustration, and even about his doubts. Yet, at the end of a psalm, he often praised the Lord and remembered the good things that God had done.

This woman experienced a tremendous spiritual breakthrough from her misery. She cautiously began to list her complaints to the Lord. The more she talked to Him, the safer she felt. She then began sobbing out all her pent-up emotions. She was not sure what to expect, and darts of fear that He might punish her crept in. But she felt a tremendous peace flooding her. Each time she prayed, her prayer ended with joy and praise.

It has been said that we cannot keep secrets from God, so why do we try so hard to gloss over our feelings? He already knows how we feel, and it is most important that we admit it to ourselves. We can then bring our sins and doubts to Him and allow Him to cleanse and purify us. This will result in a deeper relationship with our Creator and will bring true praise to our hearts and lips.

Devotional Prayer: Lord, help us to be honest with You about everything. Expose sin and cleanse us so that we may more perfectly praise You.
