Day 170: Ahem! Your Prayers Were Answered

Author: Scott Hassett

Today’s Scripture: Acts 12:11-17

Central Thought: We should believe that our prayers will be answered.

People learn some important lessons in life in the most humorous ways. Most of us can think back to some very humorous moments in our lives. Maybe we were glad no TV cameras were rolling at the time—if we were the objects of the humor. We can look back at those times and have a good laugh.

In today’s reading, Peter was arrested and chained between two soldiers in prison to await trial before Herod the next day. As Peter slept in his prison cell, many believers were praying for his release as they gathered in John Mark’s house. An angel came and delivered Peter from prison. When Peter woke up enough to realize what had happened, he decided to go to the house where the believers were praying and let them know what happened. A servant heard Peter at the door and ran to tell the believers. Their reaction to their prayers being answered was ‘you are out of your mind” (verse 15).

We should not be shocked at God’s answers to our prayers. He loves us and desires to answer those prayers. When we pray, let us have confidence that He hears and answers those prayers.

Devotional Prayer: Thank You for the privilege of trusting You to answer my prayers.
