Day 191: The Righteous Judge

Author: Richard J. Bennett

Today’s Scripture: Psalm 7:1-17

Central Thought: God is a righteous judge.

Have you ever been sitting in your car by the side of the road while a police officer writes you a ticket for speeding and wondering, Why me? Deep inside you are irritated by the unfairness of it all. You are thinking: What about the cars that have been passing me all day like I’m sitting still? Why isn’t one of those drivers the one getting the ticket?

David declared in Psalm 7:11 that ‘God is a righteous judge.” God has never judged anyone unfairly, for He tests the minds and hearts of people. He not only sees the actions, but He is also aware of what motivates those actions. His judgments are right.

As David brought out in this psalm, God is able to right wrongs (verses 12-16). Knowing this allows Christians to worship Him, to give Him ‘the thanks due to his righteousness” (verse 17).

Devotional Prayer: God, I trust Your righteous judgments and thank You for being the righteous Judge.
